Since August 2016, the IRC Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) program established its programs in Libya to respond to and prevent Gender Based Violence (GBV). The WPE Program aims at increasing access of women and girls to psychosocial and case management services and enable communities to identify and mitigate safety and security risks faced by women and girls. All programming is implemented using survivor-centred approaches that prioritize confidentiality, dignity, safety, and respect.
Job Overview/Summary: Working under the supervision of the Protection Manager, the MHPSS assistant leads all outreach, risk mitigation and community wellbeing efforts. Core activities include dissemination of information, assessment of risks faced by women, men and girls at Risk in the targeted communities and development of psychosocial response strategies and capacity building of community members.
Major Responsibilities:
 Assist in the provision of psychosocial support activities, information sessions, and other recreational activities that promote social support networks and social cohesion.
 Support people accessing and identifying support mechanisms
 Support the WPE Response focal point in conducting safety audits
 Work with women and girls in the community to identify their needs, interests and priorities, and where possible, adapt activities according to these to ensure activities offered are culturally appropriate and meet the needs of women and girls.
 Find and provide safe and confidential spaces.
 Respect and promote the GBV Guiding Principles: Respect, Confidentiality, Non-discrimination, and Safety.
 Provide and promote non-judgmental services.
 Clearly explain the referral pathway and refer individuals to the GBV case worker using the survivor centered approach.
Monitoring and Reporting
 Regularly document outreach and community mobilization activities using agreed tools to highlight key protection and safety concerns affecting women and girls in particular.

 Participate in weekly reporting and planning meetings to ensure adherence to standards of care, quality case management, and reporting requirements are followed.
 Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs
 All IRC staff is required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.
Key Working Relationships:
Position Reports to: Protection Manager
Position directly supervises: None
Indirect Reporting: Other Internal and/or external contacts:
Internal: Protection Manager, Caseworkers, Field Coordinator, and Drivers.
External: Community leaders, service providers.
Job Requirements: The requirements should establish a baseline (minimum) for educational background (preferably psychology), previous work experience, professional knowledge or certification, specific skills and strengths and any other skill necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
 At least six months experience working or volunteering in direct contact with community members
 Ability to engage with community members in an open manner, maintain confidentiality and respect.
 Clear understanding of gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls.
 Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
 Ability to work as a member of a team essential.
 Fluency in Arabic and Proficiency in English is preferable.
 INGO or NGO experience
 Ability to communicate in English
 Experience working with vulnerable population
 Skilled at using basic computer programs – Microsoft Word and Excel
Working Environment: The position will be based in Misrata, Libya with daily travel to program locations.
