We are looking for a qualified and highly-motivated professional to be part of DRC’s Protection Team in Tripoli , Libya
Who are we?
Danish refugee council has been operating in Libya and Tunisia since 2011 focusing on protection of the displaced and conflict affected population. These include refugees, asylum seekers and economic migrants in Tripoli area and in the south west of the country, the population in and around Sirte affected by unexploded ordnance (UXOs) and to an increasing extent on the legal and illegal migrants and stateless populations in Libya. DRC/DDG has its head office in Tripoli and a field office in Sabha. Sabha is located 800 km south of Tripoli and is a central transit point for migrants and is home to large numbers of minority groups and stateless populations.
About the job:
The Protection Officer is responsible for contributing to the effective implementation of a project aiming at protecting and promoting the safety, rights and agency of vulnerable and at-risk women and girls, in particular female mixed migrants. To this end, the Women Protection Officer will conduct a wide-range of activities as planned by the Protection Team Leader/Deputy Team Leader, including programmatic activities, reporting and liaison with beneficiaries and local communities.
Duties and Responsibilities
-Uphold the professional standards related to protection and humanitarian assistance, in particular with regards to the prevention of and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), in the conduct of all activities
-Conduct protection monitoring visits in detention centers and urban communities to assess the protection needs of vulnerable women and girls, in particular mixed migrants. To this end, use established assessment tools and methods such as Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
-Identify the specific needs of individual beneficiaries using established vulnerability criteria and provide an adequate response by directly delivering material aid and/or protection services as relevant
-Facilitate the free and safe access to services of target beneficiaries by referring them to a wide-range of service providers and support actors as appropriate. To this end, use established referral pathways and ensure quality in the processes of case management and referral follow-up
-Disseminate to the beneficiaries information related to their rights, the protection risks they face and the services and resources available to them
-Identify, support and coordinate with community mobilizers in order to maximize community outreach for protection monitoring and information dissemination
-Produce quality data-collection and record related to all protection monitoring activities, including individual case management, by using dedicated forms and tools such as the protection database
-Contribute to the production of quality and timely reports on program activities
-Contribute to analyze and report protection trends and patterns related to female mixed migrants
-Analyze communal dynamics and social developments that may impact the effective implementation of the project
-Develop and strengthen relationships with beneficiaries, local communities, local authorities, operational partners etc. in order to maintain trust in DRC’s professional standard and quality of work among all stakeholders
-Contribute to the effective implementation of all operations support activities, including related to administration, finances and logistics, so as to ensure smooth project implementation. In all matters, comply with internal directive and policies as communicated by the Protection Team Leader and/or the the relevant support departments
- Conduct other tasks as requested by the Protection Team Leader/Deputy Team Leader for the effective implementation of DRC’s project, including translation, support to capacity-building activities and other duties.
About you :
To be successful in this role you must have:
Experience and technical competencies:
•1-2 years of professional experience in the field of social work, humanitarian intervention, human rights, community development or any other relevant field
•Previous experience working with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and local communities
•High-level of computer literacy
University Degree in the field of social sciences, psychology, political sciences, development or any other related field
•Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
•Basic knowledge of French an asset
Internal: Program implementation team (Libya), Program management team (Tunis), Operations support departments (Libya, Tunis)
External: beneficiaries, local communities, local authorities, service providers and local actors
We offer :
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 9 month contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from 01 February 2017 and be willing and able to work in Tripoli, Libya.
