Sunday as well as Monday a public holiday through Libya

In a rare demonstration of united action, both the Tripoli-based Presidency Council and the Beida-based interim government of Abdullah Al-Thinni have announced that in addition to 1 May, International Labour Day, tomorrow (Sunday, 30 April) will be also be a public holiday.

Both administrations apparently decided to bow to the reality that most Libyans would take Sunday off regardless of whether it was holiday or not, and not antagonise public opinion by insisting that people work as normal during the day.

The education ministry, though, caused some confusion when it initially announced on its Facebook page today that Sunday would be a normal working day with schools open. The bewilderment was later ended when it reversed the announcement, saying that all schools would be closed on both days.
